Saint Michaels, MD

Derek and I spent the first half of the long weekend in Saint Michaels, Maryland.  We'd never been before and we couldn't have been more impressed.  We wanted to take advantage of having Friday and Monday off but waited too long to pull something together so we brainstormed quick getaways that were within two hours driving or a quick train ride.  My parents had been and loved it - after mentioning to them that we might go, we were sold based off all the great things they had to say.

We left Thursday and made it down there in time dinner after a smooth drive.  We walked (we could walk everywhere) to dinner - seafood, of course.
Our hotel was right on the harbor so we had fun watching the boats pull up all weekend.  It was really nice getting into town before it got crowded.
Like any of our trips, I did some research of what was around before we left and spotted a cupcake shop and just had to go.  I love testing out a cupcake in any city because well, they are my favorite.  This little shop was the perfect stop - it was adorable AND the cupcakes tasted great :)
We went in for one, picked six (to bring some home), and left with an extra dozen.  The sweet girl was closing up and offered us one of her few extra boxes - of course I said "Yes!"  There was no way we could eat them all and it would be a waste to bring that many home so I figured we could give them to the desk at the hotel but…
We went to a cute bar right in the center of town that apparently all the locals go to and everyone was so nice and welcoming that we gave the extra cupcakes to the bartender and he passed them around.  Everyone enjoyed them and I didn't have to wait to dig into one until we got back to the hotel!
Friday we had some little breakfast tastes on the upper deck at the hotel and enjoyed the cloudless sky and warmer temperatures (the day/night before were abnormally  f r e e z i n g!)
We had some time to kill before a little boat cruise so we browsed the shops and wandered around the adorable little town.
Lunch as well as the rest of our meals while we were in town for the rest of the weekend was outside.
Lunch was right next to where we needed to board the boat so we walked over, got in line to board, grabbed a beer and claimed two seats near the front of the boat and in the sun.

We enjoyed a couple hours of relaxing and snacking at the pool and enjoyed getting our first suntans of the summer.
We made a quick little visit to St. Michaels Winery, which was conveniently right down the street from our hotel.  I tasted a few whites, Derek tasted a few reds and we left with a white for me, red for Derek and a red for Stella's babysitters as a thank you (aka my parents).
Did I mention that we biked to the winery?! And then to dinner?! This was honestly one of my favorite parts.  We don't really have anywhere to casually cruise around on a bike at home so it was a blast riding around on the quiet back streets.
We put our wine into the bike basket and headed out to dinner on the dock and drinks at a different dock before turning in.  We hit the town for some final shopping, lunch and ice cream the next day and headed home to enjoy the rest of our long weekend at home!
Some specifics and favorite places details tomorrow…
