Now that we are nearing the end of decorating our new house, I want to add a couple touches to our guest rooms to make them a little more appeasable to our house guests. I recently added these wifi signs to each room because let's face it - all guests always ask what the code to be connected is :)
*clearly the dresser is still on the "to decorate" list :)
{A couple of my favorite tips for hosting house guests}
A good amount of our best and closest friends live out of town and we love to have them over any chance we get so we like to make sure our guest rooms are welcoming and our that our house is guest-ready at any point. I always like to think, what would I want in a house as a guest and try to go off of that! Here are a couple of my favorite "hosting"tips…
{Lighting & Clocks}
I like to make sure their is plenty of light in each room and not skimp just because the rooms are only used a couple times a year (it took us a little while to get enough light in both rooms, but in time it happened) as well as a clock. I hate not knowing what time it is so I like to have a clock handy as well.
{Extra Bedding}
Sometimes we have/could have more guests than we do beds so in one of the guest room closets we like to keep an extra pillow, some bedding and an air mattress in case we need to put anyone up on the couches and/or air mattress.
{Towels, Wash clothes & Toilet Paper}
Whether I place towels out in the guest bathroom or on the guest bed for whoever is staying with us or let them know to take whatever they need from the linen closet, it's nice to let guests be aware of where the towels are. As a house guest I hate having to ask "where are your towels" as I'm walking to the shower. Similarly, what to do if the toilet roll is running out and you don't know where anything is?? Before anyone arrives I like to try to make sure there is a full supply in the bathroom.
{Space for Stuff}
Like most people (I'm sure) we use our guest room space for extra storage! I mean, why not? It's perfect for off season clothes, extra items, etc. I try to leave a little bit of space in each closet in case guests need to hang things as well as ample space in the room for suitcases to be put.
{Bathroom Essentials}
The last thing I ever want to throw in my suitcase is a hair dryer.. talk about taking up space! While I used to ALWAYS bring my own because no others compared, I've grown to deal with using what hotels offer, etc. because it saves so much space! We store an extra hair dryer in one of the guest baths and I like to have the showers stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap.
{Reading Material}
We have a couple coffee table books in the top drawer of each of the guest nightstands - mostly as a storage reason but it's also nice in case our guests want something to read (our female guests, that is!). If I have extra magazines and a guest is coming, it's fun to lay those on the nightstand as well.
I'm saving the other guest room touches for once we finish up the actual house decorating but check back next week for some of my favorite guest room ideas and wants…
Fun post, lady! Guest hosting tips make great posts because people always bring up SOMETHING different each time. I love your wifi password frame, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour guest bedroom is so cute! I love the wifi password idea. I get so many people asking ours constantly. And the reading material is definitely smart!

This is a great post! And the wifi thing is perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the wi-fi password frame--very helpful especially when you have pre-teen nieces and nephew who come to visit and that's what they want to know immediately ;)
ReplyDeleteWe have a hairdryer in our guest bathroom as well, and I have a little basket of things they may have forgotten (little things Ive picked up from hotels, etc) and after we've had guests, some of them actually get used. Love your tips! :)
I just printed that same wifi sign. I'm the same way, I have to know the time constantly. Even we were in Fiji laying on the beach I asked what time it was every hour.
ReplyDeleteI think the WIFI password sign is such a great idea - it's usually the first thing we ask for when we go to stay at someones house!!! Great tips for making your guest feel at home!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteYour WiFi password sign is awesome! Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteI saw the wifi password sign on Pinterest lately and immediately pinned it, such a great idea! Every single person who stays at the house asks for it. Love the frame you chose for yours :)
ReplyDeleteLove all of these sweet gestures in your guest room!
ReplyDeleteLove the wifi password sign! I've seen it on Pinterest but haven't gotten around to actually making one.
ReplyDeleteThe spare hairdryer is also a great idea, it definitely is such a pain to carry around everywhere when traveling. We also like to keep extra shampoo, conditioner, and soap in our showers so guests don't have to travel with those either.
These are great tips! I'm with you on all of these - I hate asking for towels and toilet paper!
ReplyDeleteLove the wi-fi password sign - that is a brilliant idea!
