In the Diaper Bag (0-6 Months & 6-12 Months)

This post has been coming for a long time - it was on my to do list since Tatum was probably about 3 months old.  Now that he's in the second half of his first year, our diaper bag looks a lot different than it did in that first half.  Since it took me so long I figured I'd break it up for both parts of the first year and what we carry along.

The actual diaper bag bag has changed through the months - I started with a large Goyard tote, then used just a little backpack of Tatum's and now use this backpack most of the time.  The backpack works great because you can wear it or it has a nice strap to hold and a few side compartments.  I also sometimes just throw this little pouch  which we keep the diapers/wipes/changing pad into my Goyard with a couple toys and my purse items - two in one and it works.  I like to have things pretty compact so I can switch bags easily when I want to.

0-6 Months:
At 0-6 months the diaper bag was mostly for diaper changes, formula and sanitizing.  The first few weeks I had EVERYTHING in the diaper bag, any little thing I thought we needed but within about a month lightened it up a lot.  During this phase the diaper bag just sat in the car seat because we primarily used the car seat attached onto his stroller and could just grab it all and run out the door.

6-12 Months:
For 6-12 months the diaper bag has been more about toys to entertain, baby food and puffs, etc.  Of course it's still got all the necessities of the first few months too.  I also leave a few diapers/wipes/paper towels and a baggy in my car just in case now too.   Now that he's in a bigger carseat and the original stroller attachment we just keep the diaper bag in the mudroom so it's ready to go - it's always packed and I just throw whatever food/formula we need in right before we go.

Extra outfit
Pacifiers
Sanitizer, hand/face wipes
Bottle, formula
Puffs, baby food, spoon, bib
Toys, teething toys

  1. This was so helpful!!! I'm leaning toward getting a backpack diaper bag because it just seems easier to carry around?

  2. We *STILL* use those diaper trash bags for Knox! And what's funny is I've found they make ones for dogs, too (we don't have animals so this was news to me, ha!) and they're SO much cheaper and do the exact same thing -- and fit in that carrier!

  3. Those Johnson & Johnson hand and face wipes are THE BEST! We used them all the way up until just about a year ago!

  4. The 0-6 months must haves are everything for me right now! I took it for the first time to the pediatrician and used wipes and a diaper and sanitizer right away! So that was good to have with me! xo, Biana- BlovedBoston

  5. Isn't it funny how much the contents of the diaper bag change over the first year? Ours is looking similar to yours right now with sippy cups, toys, and snacks. And always wipes... because those little hands love to touch allll the germy things <3
