On the Links {Father's Day Weekend}

Father's Day, National wear Lilly day, The official start of summer, The US Open… This weekend was filled with some big events. Two years ago the Open was at one of the country clubs around here so Derek and I spent a day at the tournament with my dad and brother who went everyday… Now that I've gone the tournament it is always more interesting to me.  I've been celebrating summer since before Memorial Day and every week is wear Lilly so, how about we focus on Father's Day.

We decided that we'd do a golf day as part of our gift this year which in years past just the boys went with Steve but I wanted to give it a try this year too.  I got my golf top (apparently you can't just wear whatever you want) and luckily had a pair of shorts to match.  The first nine holes I was all for it - the back nine, they started to loose me.  I "played" along too and by played I mean hit from the tees, found my ball, threw it somewhere on the course to hit again and then putted… but it was my first time, everyone thought that would be the best way to teach me and it was the most fun.  Some holes I skipped and enjoyed a beverage from the drink cart :)

Like most places this weekend the weather was iffy because of the storm but we lucked out - switching our golf from Father's Day Sunday to Saturday just in case.  We also switched our BBQ at my parents house to Saturday night and we're pleasantly surprised to find that it only ended up raining over night so we had a bonus BBQ on Sunday at our house.

Final verdict: I think it would be fun to golf a couple times a year.  But only nine holes.  Eighteen is WAY too long for me but I did enjoy playing for the most part.  I'm thankful for the sun for tanning and the snack cart for drinks to sit.  And the good company of course.

Who knew you had to personalize your ball?? Not me but it makes sense.  My husband knows me well - he did a monogram on mine.  I kept track of it the whole time.  Until the 17th hole and it went into the bushes.

The difference between the front nine and the back nine.  Thanks to my husband for playing paparazzi when I wasn't looking.

Our reward after the big golf day -- a BBQ of course.  Key lime pie isn't quite my favorite but then again they don't call it Christina Day they call it Father's Day and it's Steve's favorite so I tested out making one… recipe coming soon.

I love putting thought into gifts {Christmas it takes me forever to brainstorm my gift-giving list} and the perfect Father's Day gift fell on our lap last week at the Fundraiser Gala we attended.  We sneakily bid on a Penn State ball autographed by the new coach without Steve knowing from the three kids and we're able to fib enough to surprise him. {Note Nash - he thinks any football is for him}.

Mom whipped up some delicious food in addition to having a fantastic setup on the deck and Steve grilled flavorful steaks.  We also tried out Kate's baked potato dip as one of our appetizers and it was ah-mazing.  These peanut butter pop ups we're a fabulous dessert amongst a very delicious meal - many recipes coming in the future weeks.

Due to the unexpected nice weather day yesterday we were able to have a second impromptu BBQ {at our house} this time to celebrate the holiday.
The rest of the family was there too :)

Have you entered this fabulous giveaway yet?! Don't miss out.

  5. 18 is long, but you're a champ for trying!! Not going to lie - I use hot pink balls because that's the ONLY WAY I'll ever find my ball. Because you know... it doesn't stay where it's supposed to!!

  7. Loving your colorful golf outfit of course, and it looks like so much fun! I still have yet to get out there on a real course (only driving ranges and mini golf lol), but I agree I think 9 holes would be enough for me too :)

  9. Haha I just found out this weekend that pro golfers mark their ball with a series of dots or a line so they know which is theirs when playing too. Don't know why I never thought about it before! Sounds like you had a fun weekend golfing! Your outfit is so cute!

  18. Haha! I'm so with you - 18 is way too long. I honestly think about 6 or 7 holes would be perfect. It was rough when I played in high school because we had to walk all 9 holes (carrying our bags) then the districts was walking 18 holes. Looks like y'all had a great day and weekend!

  19. My dad and my husband are both big golfers. Me, not so much. I've given it a try several times but I don't have enough patience (that and Tim and I were ready to kill each other the one time we did play together, lol). Good for you for giving it a shot! Sounds like a wonderful Father's Day weekend!

  20. You're a trooper for golf in the heat, lady! At least you had cold beverages ;) That food all looks incredible!

  21. I love mini golf...does that count? Ha! I think I'd be able to handle a few holes of actual golf (if I'm doing it the way you were learning...otherwise it'd take me way too long!). But I think I'd get burnt out and want to head to the drink cart too!

  25. stopping by a lil late because I was off my blogging game yesterday. Looks like a wonderful father's day weekend and I agree 9 holes is a lot more fun than 18. At least you had carts, walking 18 is the worst! Cute monogram on the ball, haha.

All of the food looks delicious, as always and what a fun gift idea.
