With summer heating up, I thought today I'd share my personal go to summer staples. Everyone's style is different so I can't wait to hear what all of your summer staples are. For instance, I love the white pants and top look but the weather always heats up too much for my taste for that look to work for me more than a couple weeks into summer. I have my favorites and each year I build on what I like.
In past years I just wanted to have everything but now my motto is most definitely more quality over quantity and I'd rather have just a few nice pieces. With statement necklaces and accessories, you could wear the same dress four times and have a different look each time.
So, here we go with my top six summer staples.
O N E. Bright Sun Dresses
Once the weather is above 75 degrees, I'm most likely wearing a sun dress. You can't beat how comfortable you feel in a dress and how cute most of them are. I love that you can be good to go on a hot day or just throw a sweater on at night when it's a little cooler and the look still works. I personally like to have a good mix of patterns and solids because the patterns are just so cute but the solids are fun to dress up with accessories.

I like building my maxi collection each year. As a shorter lady, it's tough finding these dresses that aren't too long! I've been more successful this year than in years past but have also picked up a couple that I have to drop off at the dry cleaner for hemming. I say a few because I get a lot of my maxi wearing done in the spring; I only prefer to sport a maxi in the summer if it's a cooler day/night.
T H R E E. Neutrals {Shoes}
Don't get me wrong, I have my fair share of shoes to go with certain outfits and a few fun pairs but my summer staple is something neutral. Like most people, the travel schedule picks up in the summer and shoes take up a lot of suitcase room - I don't want to have to be packing a different pair for every outfit. My everyday go-to are my favorite Tory Burch sandals in tan or white. I'm also loving the Jack Rogers wedge sandals which can be good for day or night. A tan wedge goes with everything so you can't beat that.
F O U R. Plain with Patterns {Shirts with Shorts}
If I'm not in a dress then my go-to tops are v-neck t-shirts {I prefer this style to a crew neck when accessorizing with jewelry} or a cute tank top. I like to throw a couple patterns in there but for the most part, solid colors are easier to mix and match so I stick with that. I love my staple color shorts {white/navy/a couple bright colors} then I love to throw in some patterns because based on the colors you can mix at least a few different tops with one pattern.
Staples are key and you picked some great ones. Love the bright dresses and the shoes!
ReplyDeleteThese are great looking picks to get you through summer for sure! I'm with you--I love wearing white pants but can't handle it that far into summer (nothing looks good when you're sweating and overheating haha)
ReplyDeleteSundresses and sandals are a must in the summer!
ReplyDeleteWe are totally on the same wave length today!! Wedges are probably my most worn "heel" in the summer!! I still need to find some white pants that I actually like! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the dress thing!!! I also keep a couple of Lilly Pulitzer shorts and skorts on hand. I've been seeing some adorable rippers this year and I'm thinking of trying them out for windy days or days I'm volunteering at the DMA! It's hard to get on the floor with little kids in dresses all that gracefully, lol!! I love everything you picked too!!
ReplyDeleteI love coming home and knowing that we aren't leaving for the night so I can put on my comfortable clothes! Haha
ReplyDeleteI pretty much live in sandals and dresses. I have started leaning more towards maxis b/c it allows me to be more involved (bending down and what not) with my kids.. and not showing off everything. ha! But I love all of my shorter, brightly colored Lilly dresses. I also tend to live in jcrew chino shorts and tanks/t's. Just so comfy and versatile!
ReplyDeleteYes to all of this! Bright colored sun dresses and maxis are my go to for summer. And obsessing over those Jack Rogers. I've been debating on getting them for awhile now and I think I'm just going to go for it!

Sequins & Sea Breezes
Bright sundresses and jewelry are definitely my staples, and some good neutral wedges. Loving your picks, you always look fabulous <3
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it - sundresses, maxis, and neutral wedges are much needed for the summer months! Xo, Stephanie
ReplyDeleteMaxi dresses/skirts are my favorite! I love wearing them to work- they are comfy, cool and dressy enough for my office :)
ReplyDeleteLoving your staples!! I have to admit that my #1 this summer is dresses! Being pregnant and experiencing my first Arizona summer? Yuck! If I could, I'd walk around in a bikini all day... basically as little clothing as possible, HA!
ReplyDeleteIn the summer, I live in comfy clothes. Yoga capris, workout shorts, racerback tanks. That's where it's at. But on the off chance, we manage to get ourselves up and out of the house for a date night or two, you can never go wrong with a nice flowy maxi dress!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I live in white pants and dresses basically! PS- Found you on social media!

Sounds like most of our staples are the same! Bright dresses, maxis, neutral shoes...I also love wearing v-necks with shorts or white jeans (lately it is way too hot to wear white jeans though, so I'm with you there).
ReplyDeleteI am definitely in the mode of quality over quantity these days, too! I am too scared to try white pants...I am worried I will get something on them! Love all your staples!
ReplyDeleteLOVE dresses for summer! They really are so cool and comfortable, and versatile for lots of ocassions! I want to get some new shorts with patterns, I have mostly soilds which I love but patterned shorts are so fun!
ReplyDeleteYour staples are basically the same as mine! I do love the white jeans with a cute top though. But I normally just wear that at night when it is cooler. Summer dresses are my favorite too! Love this post!!
ReplyDeleteLove a maxi! So easy! I feel ya on the short girl issue of them being too maxi ;) aaaannnndd the comfies! Gap has some jogger shorts I want to try on because they look cute and dont have a button.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything and will add: a great pair of sunnies!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great list! I agree with you on everything, especially some comfy clothes. :)
ReplyDeleteI love bright summer dresses! I'm wearing one today and love it! I also need some more neutral sandals. I've wanted the TB ones but can't bring myself to pay that yet. :) Great list!
ReplyDeleteSo funny you mentioned neutral shoes because the times I've tried to "branch out" with colorful wedges or sandals, I never wear them. It's all about the gold and tan, all summer long. YES to maxis/dresses - especially with the dang humidity!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your picks!! I have a pair of gold Jack Rogers and gold wedges that I like to wear during the summer. I also finally bought a pair of nude Sam Edelman sandals that I've been wearing. I never used to like maxi dresses because I'm so short, but I bought a few in Singapore and now I love them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of your faves and choices! I wear basically the same shoes as you all summer and I love bright colors!!!
ReplyDeleteYour staples are perfect for the summer! I've definitely gotten more into dresses - I love the skinny jean look but it's too dang hot in FL. My other go to's are J Crew Chino shorts
ReplyDeleteInstead, wear lighter or brighter colors so that it can easily adapt to the light of the sun and at the same time it can easily make you feel more refreshed. smell proof bags
