The Nutcracker

I haven't seen a production of The Nutcracker for years and this year I got the itch to go.  Growing up, I was in my ballet school's production of The Nutcracker - and they went all out! I had roles as an angel, a toy soldier and a Polichinelle.  I remember all the dances, all the characters in the ballet and the order it all goes.

After dropping a couple casual hints, Derek surprised me Thanksgiving weekend with tickets to go and a Christmas date night in the city.  I was so excited and have been waiting all month.  This is definitely going to be an annual thing and I look forward to many more outings.

Last night was when we went!  I took the train in to meet Derek after work for an early dinner at The Palm before heading over to The Academy of Music just down the block for the 7pm showing of the ballet.  It's such a festive and enjoyable production.

Other Happenings:

+ The best week of the year is upon us - I look forward to each and every day this week and taking in all there is to do.  Next week we'll get into the baking (an assortment of cookies spread throughout a few days) and the eve eve (and eve eve eve) celebrations before the real stuff starts. 'Tis the season because it is here.

+ The shopping is done (I think, I hope), and today is my "wrapping" day.  I'm hoping to get the gifts wrapped and bows made mostly all today.  I've still got a few gifts that should be arriving this weekend and I hope those are the only ones that'll need wrapping next week, but we'll see.

+ We've finished up a couple more movies (Santa Baby, Fred Claus, Desperately Seeking Santa) and I've got a full list of the ones I want to get in this week - finishing up with Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve.

+  We're heading up to NYC for an overnight tomorrow (Thankfully it will be a little bit cooler!) and then heading home to celebrate my birthday on Sunday!  One of my most favorite weekends of the whole year - birthday celebrations + Christmas festivities.  The best.

One week left!
