Dining Under the Stars

It's that season again, the season of Dining Under the Stars.

I might have moved to the town over after we got married but I will always consider the town I grew up in my town.  I mean it's less than 10 minutes away and the slogan is literally "Everybody's Hometown."  That being said… in my town from the start of May to the end of September the main street shuts down and a lot of the restaurants put tables and chairs out and your able to "dine under the stars" hence the name.

My family - like my entire extended family - has been enjoying going since it began (I've lost track but a few years) and it's a great little thing to look forward to each Wednesday night.  It's gotten so popular that our family actually had to split into two groups to still be able to get in to certain restaurants - some you need a certain number or some you can't have more than a certain number - but we still get to at least see the other group and  end up seated with a group of about 7-12 and it is easier to talk.

This is the first year we didn't start going right at the start of the season because everyone's schedules have been hectic and last night was our first of a great season of Wednesdays ahead.  Our first one started off at one of our favorite italian restaurants and it was a great first night.  The other family group dined at the same place and we were just missing my brother and cousin but still had a great time.  We got to run into one our of best friends, listen to live music and enjoy the best weather.  It's gotten so popular that we did have to wait for a while but we enjoyed taking it all in because the family time together is so valued.

It's such a fun activity because it's a great way to see my extended family once a week, be outside, try restaurants I might not have (of course in the off season I always stick to my handful or so of favorites) and you always run into somebody you know.  Kids play in the streets, people walk their dogs, you can say hi to friends dining at other restaurants, etc.  A great social night and Wednesdays from now until October starts , you can most likely find me on State Street.

On a side note, when we got home last night we tuned in late to the CMT's (luckily we dvr'd) and I cannot get over how fabulous Carrie Underwood looked (well, she always looks great)! Don't get me wrong, I love me some Miranda but I'm so happy Carrie cleaned up the awards last night.  And how cute was it that they showed her hubby SO many times (my hubby fell asleep on the couch watching).
Fun fact, she is a sorority sister of mine… just different chapters.  It was also fun to stop by her house in Nashville thanks to a friend who lives in her neighborhood :)

It always gets me how supportive all of the country music community is of each other.. Oh what I'd do to be a country music star.  Fun to dream.. right?!

Do you have favorite activities to do in your town??
What was your favorite CMT Awards favorite?!
But really - does anyone know how Carrie tones her thighs?!

  3. Dining under the stars sounds so cool! The closest thing to that we have here are food truck nights where it's like a big block party. Lol

  12. How fun is this event?! I love hometown traditions like this!! Summer evenings are usually my favorite but I fear that I will hate them in AZ! I hear it gets so hot here that it doesn't cool down below 100 even during the night for a couple of months, yuck!

  23. I love hometown traditions! Was it not too hot to eat outside though? We would die down here if we ate in the sun...it definitely would have to be shaded!
