Football season might be over
(sigh) but our weekends in State College aren't. We headed up Friday to spend the weekend and got back yesterday in time for a lazy Sunday afternoon of football, couch time and an italian dinner.
There's no excitement than that of game day but I also enjoy the quiet of an off weekend to get to enjoy some of the things we don't do when town is crowded with everyone in town for football games - we can go out to eat downtown without worrying about lines, get some shopping in, relax by the fire and lounge around the house, etc.
Derek has been asking to go to a wrestling match for the longest time
(not my thing at all) so the boys finally went Friday night while Mom and I sipped wine and watch the food network/hgtv - perfect way to kick off a relaxing weekend. We did a little happy hour
(it wasn't a tailgate but it was a close second) and then enjoyed some pizza later on. State College is always a bit colder than here but we lucked out
(if you call 30 degrees instead of 16 lucking out) and were able to get in a nice long walk with the dogs each morning. Saturday we did some shopping and went to one of my favorites, The Deli for soups before I took a long nap by the fire and decided to forgo the hockey game - Mom and I watched on TV while the boys attended. We went to the Nittany Lion Inn
(classic Penn State) afterwards for dinner at the bar. James Franklin had a table full of recruits a couple tables away - with signing day coming up soon, things are getting exciting.
I always forget my headphones when at Penn State so it was nice to find some Penn State ones in my Christmas stocking.
Waiting for the last bites - they won't look away when you've got a banana
Another bonus of going to the Deli during the off season - the soup & chili festival - tons of great things to pick from.
We did our best to try to keep warm and cozy all weekend.
Cheers to another new start & hoping the week goes by quickly. For everyone who has off today, enjoy!
Looks like such a fun weekend! My friends (who went to Penn State) always have such a great time when they go to visit! Have a great week!

Sounds like a great time! Your relationship with your mom is like me and my mom. If only my mom wasn't 10 hours away. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend! How cool is it that you had a table of recruits so close too?! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteThat's how we feel about Waco when football season is over: so much more space and less crowds! Sounds like a fun weekend, despite the chilly temps! :)

What a great non-football weekend! Sometimes it's nice to visit your favorite college town during the offseason to experience it without all of the crowds. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI always loved Tuscaloosa during the summer because it was quiet, so I know what you mean! Love that you had a great family weekend!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome weekend, and how cool that you got to see James Franklin with the recruits!

ReplyDeleteAhhh I miss PSU weekends! Tim is traveling for work this week and he's only about a half hour away from State College - I told him he should go for dinner one night :) It would be so fun to meet up with you guys one weekend if we finally get there for hockey or maybe Blue/White!
ReplyDeleteYes!! That would be such fun!!
DeleteThat's great that you got lots of QT with your mom and it was relaxing with yummy food! I'll all about some wine and cheese on the weekends and those shrimp look amazing too!

I'm glad that you had a good weekend! As always, all your food makes me drool. :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a pretty amazing weekend, even if there wasn't a football game going on. I always love going to College Station during non football game weekends because you really get the chance to enjoy the town, plus not having to wait hours at a restaurant, is definitely a major plus. I would have skipped out on the wrestling match too. The Food Network and HGTV just sound so much better than sweaty guys rolling around on a mat lol!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun weekend! Sometimes mom time is the best. And that puppy picture made me giggle! My dog was the exact same with bananas.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great weekend!! Looks like y'all had a blast and somehow managed to stay warm ;)
ReplyDeleteSo cool you guys got to sit near a table full of recruits! Sounds like you guys had another amazing weekend! Happy Tuesday!
