Twenty Seven

In the midst of all this holiday festiveness, I celebrated my birthday yesterday! This is my favorite week of the year (as it is for most people) and I've always LOVED having my birthday just before Christmas - it makes the season that much better.  Although with Derek's birthday in November I do think we might start up a half birthday joint celebration for both of us this year to have something special to look forward to.

I have to give credit to my family, friends and Derek - nobody has ever tried to combine my birthday with Christmas, let it get caught in the shuffle and most importantly... use Christmas wrap on my gifts (the horror!).

Other than a little bit of food poisoning over the night on Saturday (it was overnight so I'm throwing that back with year 26), the weekend was perfect.  Although friday was suppose to be a "wrapping day" I got just one single gift wrapped, ha! Looks like today, tomorrow and Wednesday will be my days.  We had an impromptu dinner and drinks night with friends on Friday before heading up to the big apple.

Derek and I spent the night in New York to celebrate and last night we went to my favorite Mexican restaurant with my family to celebrate. My mom nailed it with the decorations and everyone was very thoughtful and generous with their gifts.  It's always great to hear from so many friends and family members near and far to celebrate the day.  I was too busy enjoying cake (from my favorite bakery - always the same every year) and opening presents last night so I'll keep it short and sweet today and share about our time in NYC tomorrow.

I'm wiped from all the fabulous festivities and excitement - hoping to find some energy today to get everything done (well you know, all the fun things - baking, wrapping, Christmas movies).  I've got a couple hours in the office today and tomorrow then it's all about Christmas break.

Happy Monday! Four days left!

  16. Happy belated birthday! I loved seeing all of your pictures from NYC this weekend, it definitely looks like you had a blast celebrating! And hooray for not letting your birthday get lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas! I have to admit, we're kind of a bad aunt and uncle to our niece who's birthday is on the 18th, but she's only 2 right now, so when she gets older we'll definitely try to differentiate for her. We didn't use Christmas wrapping paper on her birthday gifts though!

  27. KYle and I are a week apart and both in October, but thankfully, we have so many occassions spread pretty evenly throughout the year. Sophie's birthday, our anniversary, father's day, mother's day, birthdays, thanksgiving, Christmas, that we don't mind having our birthdays so close together. You looked like you had a wonderful year of being 26, I hope your 27th year is just as good and better!
