I'm back today a little bit more rested from the weekend away - how nice it feels to be almost caught up and back to normal. If you missed part one of our Boston getaway, make sure to check it out.
I kicked off our second full day with a lobster omelet - I could really get on board with living in New England and having access to all that delicious seafood. On our second day we decided to visit some places that we were wanting but didn't have time on the trolley tour the day before - sightseeing part two was in full effect.
Travel posts are my favorite to read and my favorite to write so I love to include as many details as possible. I also love taking photos of my travels and my family so combine the two and it's a photo overload but I didn't want to drag these posts out any longer so hang on…
Subway Riding
We don't have very many chances to ride a subway around here - the only time it's really used is if Derek comes to meet us for a Phillies game right from work and that's really it so I was really interested in using it as a form of transportation at least once in Boston since it's used so regularly there. It took us a little bit to figure out how to use it and one of us was really not a fan - I won't name names but it was a gal and it wasn't me :) I knew I probably would never get her on a subway again so I had to document the adventure with some photos.
Fenway Park
Growing up in New England, Steve went to his first baseball game(s) at Fenway and still enjoys following the Red Sox (note I said following and not cheering for because now he's a Phillies fan just like all of us are!) so we knew we needed to do a quick visit inside the stadium. Having previously worked in baseball, I usually get nostalgic for that lifestyle once a year and did on this day - I always love seeing stadiums and it was a highlight for everyone else as well.
Harvard
Davey was most interested in making the trip over to Cambridge to see Harvard but once we got up there I got excited to head over and see it too - actually, everyone enjoyed it! Such a beautiful campus which I was so jealous of - Mine & Derek's little New England school had about a four block radius for a border and this beautiful one had old brick buildings, trees creating gorgeous shade and plenty of courtyard space. Definitely a highlight to see.
Boston Tea Party Ships
We had passed the Boston Tea Party replica ships the day before on the trolley and thought it looked really interesting so after Harvard we headed over to the Seaport District and decided to check this out instead of heading out on a boat cruise. It was very interesting to hear the history as well as walk throughout the replica ships. Derek and I of course both had a blast throwing the "tea" overboard.
Tia's: Cocktails & Lunch
We enjoyed a delicious outdoor lunch and some cocktails to refresh us. Everyone got some form of seafood and we enjoyed the breeze from the wharf and the views of the water.Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market
After lunch we strolled across the street to this area which was pretty crowded since it was a Saturday afternoon. Cupcake stop number two was at Wicked Good Cupcakes which were in fact, wicked good. I love how they came in a mason jar and they were even featured on one of our favorite shows, Shark Tank. Steve got the wicked good, I with cookies and cream and Derek with salted carmel - we still have some of ours left to keep enjoying during this week.
Christopher Columbus Park
There was a little park right next to our hotel that was on the waterfront and gorgeous with the greens and beautiful flowers. It worked as the perfect backdrop to grab some family photos on the way out each night. It's rare that we have the big camera out with us that much at home so we took advantage.
I also finally got to wear one of my Everly dresses that I shared last week which was perfect for a New England night.
Union Oyster House
We had gotten a recommendation from a family friend that had been in Boston previously to try the Union Oyster House - the oldest restaurant in America and we loved it! It was darling, had visitors such as Mark Walberg, Hugh Hefner, Mitt Romney, Wayne Newtown, Jay Leno, Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Wayne Gretzky, George and George W. Bush, Cameran Diaz and a whole wall full of plaques more. The boys also loved that it was completely rented out when the Ryder Cup was held in Boston and all the golfers' diner there - Derek just "had" to sit in Tiger's seat at the bar. This place also had amazing clam chowder.
John F. Kennedy went here every Sunday for dinner while living nearby and his booth was right across from the one we sat in so we had to check it out once the group that was sitting there got up.
Bell in Hand
Right next door was America's oldest bar, which we had learned on our tour so we had to pop over for a drink after dinner.
Walking back to the hotel area we passed these pretty twinkle light trees - like I said before, I was taking advantage of photo opportunities and begged the boys to go along with it and get a photo of each of us with the parents.
We closed out our night with a few more drinks at the hotel bar before I dug in to my cookies and cream cupcake which was ah-mazing!

Our Final Morning
Derek and I had a flight out about an hour after everyone else so we just took it easy and took in some more of the beautiful views by the wharf before having one last cup of clam chowder (can you tell we were obsessed?) in a bread bowl.
What a fun trip! I haven't been to Boston in a long time, but it is such a fun city, and the weather looked like it was perfect for all of your sight seeing! :)
ReplyDeleteWaking up to have a lobster omelette sounds perfect--you need yummy fuel to power you through all of that walking! SO glad you had a good trip! :)
Funny enough I never knew that park was called Christopher Columbus lol!! I'm glad you had such a wonderful time and yes the seafood is pretty amazing - it's all I eat in the summer :) xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

So much fun! And of course I'm loving all of your amazing dresses! You guys hit up all the best places, and went at the best time of year like Pamela said... when it's warm out! After growing up in New England, and moving to Florida I only like to go back and visit in the warmer months :-P
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed these recaps. It looks like you guys had a wonderful trip - beautiful family! My bestie LOVES Boston and always love going to visit. I hope to visit eventually.. it's definitely on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Fenway cool (even though I hate the Red Sox)?! I love that it's so intimate compared to the massive new parks!! Union Oyster House is good too! That was the first place I ever ate in Boston!! I love that you have coordinating outfits!! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad y'all got to hit all the highlights! I was jealous of how pretty Harvard was too because my school isn't very architecturally pretty. I thought Harvard was so beautiful, and very Harry Potter-esque. That's probably why I loved it so much!
ReplyDeleteAw looks like so much fun!! I love you guys throwing the tea overboard! I love Boston so much! I'm ready to go back!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the matchy matchy dress/top!! You covered so much!! I haven't been since 2008 but we have a family trip planned to Boston next month :)
ReplyDeleteThis trip looked like such a blast! I am definitely going to refer back to this if I am able to visit Boston in the future. Thanks for sharing! And those cupcakes in a mason jar...how brilliant is that?! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWe did a lot of the same things when we went to Boston, I'm sad we didn't got to Harvard, though. That would have been fun! I loved the ship!
ReplyDeleteYep...I'm 100% sold on Boston. So in about 6 months or so expect some emails from me on the city!! lol
ReplyDeleteI would have been in history nerd heaven seeing the Boston Tea Party replica ships. So cool! :)
I'm going to have to try to go to Harvard next time we go to Boston! I can't wait to go back and see Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market now that I'm older!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really great trip! Love the photos of Fenway & Harvard!! Both places I want to see in person :) Sounds like you all had lots of fun & yummy food :)

ReplyDeleteAaaahhhh what a fun trip! You're making me want to go so bad! One day I'll have to get up there...

ReplyDeleteI am seriously cracking up at you guys throwing the tea overboard from the ship - it just hit me funny, lol! Boston seriously looks like such an awesome place - I hope we get to visit soon! That cupcake looked absolutely delicious, and YES to massive amounts of clam chowder - I probably would eat it at every meal.
