Looks & Life Lately {14)

Life lately basically looks a lot like this; just the three of us hanging out at home trying to beat the winter cold/blues.

It's no secret that we love Mexican but a lot of recipes we like end up being too much for just the two of us so we either try to scale it down, freeze some or host and on this night we decided to go with hosting - such an easy meal for a group! {taco standssimilar tortilla holdersimilar salsa bowls}

We got a new mirror for our bedroom at Christmas so we were able to get rid of the one behind our closet door (with terrible lighting and little space) so Derek was nice enough to hang this towel bar for me to layout my clothes each day.  (It stops me from setting them out on HIS side of the closet)

A great way to beat the cold - vacation plan! We're headed down to Palm Beach later this month and we don't usually travel during the winter so I'm looking forward to trading out the snow for the sand. {my planner is sold out I believe but this one is the same kind just with stripes}

Another favorite of mine to get through winter is baking! I've had fun trying some new recipes (ex. almond sugar cookies) and old favorites that we never have - we whipped up some chocolate chip muffins for the snow storm.

I've been getting all the use out of my favorite scarfs recently.  And this dress too - I wore it one week with one scarf and then the next week with a different one. {scarf in red & on sale, purse, dress}

Trying to brighten things up inside each week with some new flowers; these are definitely my favorite so far. {monogram cutting board, vase - same style, different design}

My heart went pitter patter when I found these perfect pillows in Lilly Pulitzer - new releases and I'm so glad I could convince Derek to add a little "Lilly" touch to the deck. {pillows & getting this one to accent them next time I stop in}

As usual, we've been enjoying weekly date nights and really enjoying being treated to some meals with gift cards from Christmas.

Like I shared Friday, it was the one year mark from when we got Stella.  I cherish having my little side kick around each day.  The house is so empty (and quiet) when she isn't there.

The weekly dose of Stella...

And last but not least... Today is National Signing Day! Another step closer to the 2016 season for everyone.  We've lost a few recruits that flipped their decision at the last minute this past week but also gained a few new ones - interested to follow along closely today...

  15. We need a towel rack in our house for my clothes. i usually throw mine across the bottom of the bed on the footbed and it drives Kyle nuts because he's really tall and it touches his feet.

    Have fun traveling! We're currently warmer than usual here too. And yay for having Stella for a year! Animals are so important :)

  18. I've been looking for ideas for lighting in my closet. It's horrible and not conducive for taking outfit pictures lol! I love the towel rack idea though for outfits. Would make mornings a lot easier!

  21. Love the idea of adding the hanging bar next to your mirror!! I'm obsessed with your Lilly pillows - they're going to be perfect for your porch!

  22. We're always trying to eat as much Mexican food as possible too! We normally don't freeze any of our meals and just eat them for lunches throughout the week, but it's so tough to just cook for two people! And happy Signing Day! I hope that Penn State gets a lot of great recruits!

  23. SO excited about National Signing Day! We've already had some amazing athletes sign on, which is a relief. We were all worried since Mark Richt left that a lot of the recruits would have a change of heart, but so far it's looking pretty good!

  24. I love your clothes bar to set out your outfits! What a great idea - I probably could benefit from that. Love your LP finds - those will be perfect on the deck once the warmer weather arrives.

  25. The clothes rack is a good idea. I like to layout my work clothes each night so I don't have to waste time rummaging through my closet in the morning. Travel planning is always fun! It's so warm in Florida, you'll definitely be able to get some beach time.

  26. I always love these posts from you - you guys have so much fun, and remind me of my husband and I pre kids! Stella is just too cute!

  27. It's so tough when you're just cooking for two people--we freeze a lot and I also end up taking leftovers to work (definitely not a bad thing). Love your Lilly pillows!

  28. Can I come next time you make Mexican food haha?! I swear I could eat it every night.

  29. It's amazing how much fresh flowers brighten up my week! I always try to grab some at Trader Joe's. They're inexpensive, but usually make it through the week. I hope whenmy children grow up, they remember mom always had fresh flowers on the kitchen table!

  30. Mexican is sooooo good but we don't make it as often as I would like. What's a really easy Mexican recipe other than tacos?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love your serving dishes. So fun and festive. I am definitely ready to trade in this snow for a warm beach somewhere. The only problem is, I might not want to come back. Haha! ;)

  32. thanks for linking up with us as well girl :)

    stella is adorable! those taco stands are fabulous, i need them. i'm with you, we always make way too much food for just the two of us, i've been trying to halve recipes lately so we don't end up with a ton of leftovers. love that bar in your closet, that is seriously genius. i want it!

  33. How nice of him to hang that bar for you! I hang my clothes up before work each night but they're always on some weird hook somewhere. A designated bar would be great. I cant't imagine anything better than staying in lately with your pet and baking. Perfect!!

  34. That last pic of you and your guy...what lipstick are your wearing. I LOVE the color! Stella seems like a real sweetie. And, I love all things Mexican food.
