Arizona: Sedona

top: similar style / pants: here

We made the trip out west two weeks ago tomorrow and I'm still missing that gorgeous setting!  My parent's are regulars to Arizona, I've been twice (once because I thought I'd be attending school there and once with a friend) and neither of the boys had ever been.  We decided to break the trip up into two locations - Sedona and Phoenix with our stop in Sedona being first.  It's a bit cooler than southern Arizona (low 70's/high 60's for the highs and at nights cooler) but it sure is gorgeous.  It was a scenic drive up, just under two hours.  We stayed at Enchantment Resort and the grounds are stunning.  They give you an orientation upon arrival to learn where everything is and show you off to the "casitas" (rooms) which are scattered throughout the property (not all just in buildings like most hotels).  We lucked out being near the main area and had just a short walk to most of the activities - chip & put golf, hiking, pool, tennis, walking trails, spa, many patios, etc.

Day One: On the way up we had to stop off at In & Out Burger for a classic "welcome to the west coast" lunch - it's been a few years since I indulged and it's just as good as I remembered - that special sauce on the burgers is delicious.

For our first night once we got settled in, we headed right to grab seats at the fire pit near the center of the resort.  This was definitely one of my favorite parts of Sedona - the red rocks are so close to you and to enjoy a cocktail by the fire pit is perfection.  After that we headed off for quite possibly the best Mexican food we've ever had (an that's A LOT of Mexican food) - I went for a classic - enchiladas.  We lasted until about 9:30 but then everyone was beyond ready for bed due to the time change.

Day Two: Sedona Adventuring: Our original plans were to head out to one of the local wineries but we opted to stay put, enjoy the grounds and venture into town to the shops for a little bit.

Everyone kind of did their own thing in the morning and we met up for the most delicious breakfast at Che-Ah-Chi overlooking the rocks - I went for the biscuits and gravy - amazing!

On the way into town we stopped off at a lookout spot to look down over Sedona that my parent's had previously been to and the views were stunning.  At the shops I managed to scoop up a Christmas ornament, some wooden salad spoons and a gorgeous small cutting board.  We grabbed some sweet treats to indulge in too.

The afternoon was spent enjoying the resort's property - Derek, Davey, Steve and I hiked up the Boynton Canyon Mountain right at the edge of the hotel grounds while my Mom got in some reading by the fire pit.

The boys took advantage of the spa and then we had the pool all to ourselves in the late afternoon - very peaceful.

We did happy hour inside at the hotel bar this night due partly to the on/off drizzle and party due to the start of NFL draft.  We were "winging" dinner and ended up at a great little local place - some people even tried cactus fries... I did not.

The rest of Sedona & the Grand Canyon coming next...

If you haven't already, you should definitely go to SmashBurger the next time you're in Phoenix. They seriously have the BEST burgers I have ever tasted. Even my kids think so!
