Holiday Recipes {Part One}

Today I have for you some of my Christmas Recipes.  My new Christmas Eve Morning tradition of biscuit cinnamon rolls, our traditional Christmas morning casserole and Coffee Cake as well as our favorite Christmas tree sugar cookies.

As Derek and I grow our traditions, I decided that I wanted Christmas Eve morning breakfast to become my thing.  In the future when we have kids, I hope to have profected a homemade cinnamon roll recipe, but this year I tried out a biscuit cinnamon roll recipe because - quick and easy - and it did not disappoint.

Christmas Eve Biscuit Cinnamon Rolls
just five ingredients!!
Biscuit Cinnamon Ingredients:
16 oz. can pillsbury buttermilk rolls
cinnamon (use YOUR judgement and preference)
1/3 cup butter

Glaze Ingredients:
1/2 cup melted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
Directions:
a 9x13 pan works best and an aluminum disposable pan is great because no clean up

cut each biscuit into fourths and lined the bottom of the (greased) pan

sprinkle your choice of cinnamon over the biscuits but give them a nice coating

bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes and your kitchen will be smelling delicious
while the biscuits are baking, there is time to clean up the little mess and make the fabulous glaze

in a saucepan on medium heat, mix all three glaze ingredients on the stove until they come to a light boil

right when you pull the cinnamon roll biscuits out of the oven, pour the glaze evenly over the pan

serve with some kind of eggs (we used a quiche) and enjoy!!

Christmas Morning Coffee Cake and Night Before Casserole
We have this breakfast every single Christmas morning and usually the casserole a few other times through out the year because it's delicious.  This year we made it for New Year's Day breakfast when our friends were visiting.  I shared the recipes last year: here.

Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies
This is our go to sugar cookie recipe and it never disappoints.  Every December we make green christmas tree sugar cookies with green food coloring but you can use this recipe any time of the year for cookies of any color for any occasion.

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon green food coloring (or any color depending what your making, or no color!)

Directions for Dough:
In a medium bowl beat butter, sugar and powdered sugar until blended

Beat in egg, vanilla and food coloring followed by mixing in baking soda, cream of tartar and salt

In 1/4 cup or so increments, slowly beat the flour into the bowl until well blended

Using your hands and mesh the dough together into a circle, then pat it down it put a little bit of flour on either side so it doesn't stick.  Cover the dough with tin foil and chill for at least 2 hours or so (you can also make it the night before)
Directions for Cookie Making:
Lightly flour the surface and roll out one portion of the dough; place the other portion back in the fridge to stay chilled

Cut cookies with cutter and bake for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees

Cool for one minute before transferring to cooling racks

Second part of holiday recipes coming next week.
