Terranea

We've had a crazy couple weeks around here with travel and the holiday week so we enjoyed the best "nothing" weekend at home.  A couple date nights out, time at the pool, naps, a big house clean, finally getting our summer flowers finished up with a leisurely happy hour and grilling on the deck.

views from our patio

Today I'm starting to share some recaps from our recent trip to California.  We started the trip off at Terranea, about 40 minutes outside of LA.  The weather was a dream - in the 70's, sunny and breezy. At times (especially at night) I was even chilly.

After waiting a while on the runway at LAX and a long pickup line for the car, by the time we got to the resort I was tired and starving so we headed right for the pool for rest and food.  Some chips, salsa and a peach lemonade cured me right up and we enjoyed the afternoon pool hopping and taking in the coastal views.

After a late pool day we went back to the room and quickly got ready for dinner at the casual restaurant at the hotel, Nelson's.  The restaurant had a really fun vibe - mostly outdoor seating, a live band, a little windy and we saw a few dolphins swimming by.

I think we finished up dinner at around 8pm and at this point from the travel day I couldn't keep going anymore, ha!  We picked up a beer for Derek at the lobby bar, enjoyed the sunset in robes on our balcony and then I was off to bed while Derek enjoyed listening to the live music.

I love being on west coast time and try not to adjust too much - I like getting up early out there. After lounging around, enjoying our patio and such we set off for a Sunday morning hike on the trails down by the water.  We also explored the property and stores before enjoying the Sunday morning brunch at Catalina Kitchen right by the pool.  It was a pregnant girls dream - omelets, mini waffles/pancakes/french toast, a big fruit display, tons of mini donuts (!!!), all the usual lunch items with all sorts of salads, flatbreads, a raw bar, etc.

We thought there were lounge chairs down in the private cove area and although we were wrong we still wanted to walk down there anyway so we spent a little bit of time exploring before heading back up to park ourselves at the pool.

There were no plans for the rest of the day other than pool-ing and relaxing.  We got seats at the main pool so we could enjoy the view and spent a few hours relaxing before we relocated to the spa.

We did mid afternoon spa appointments to break up the day - probably the most relaxing hour of the trip!  Terranea has a fantastic spa and we met back up to enjoy the spa pool for a little bit after each of our massages - after a bit we decided to go back to the resort pool one more time to enjoy the views.

For our night at the resort we switched up our dinner plans to take advantage of the new Sunday night steak/seafood buffet at Catalina Kitchen.  Steak is usually a favorite of mine but I haven't had a bite since I've been pregnant so luckily there were other meats too.  A full meat station on the grill outside with seafood/lobster too and all the traditional sides and appetizers inside plus a gelato bar to finish it off and more outside eating.

We had a little bit of time Monday morning before heading up the coast so we walked around the grounds a bit and grabbed some breakfast outside at the little grab & go spot.

Snapping the 24 week bump from the west coast - baby's second trip out there!

  13. Um, this place looks amazing!! And I agree, one of the best things about traveling out west is that you automatically get more out of your day (waking up at the same time for you, but early there - score!). Loving the photos :)

  16. I had my birthday dinner at California Kitchen a couple years ago.... I'd love to stay at the resort though. My best friend lives about 10 minutes from there in PV, so it seems like it would be the most convenient place to stay. ;)
