Christmas Eve

Happy Monday!  Today marks the official end of Christmas Break for us... Tatum was back to school things morning and this was our first structured day in a while - I'm sad it's all over but also nice to get back into a routine.

I have a lot to catch up on and today I'm starting off with Christmas Eve Eve and Christmas Eve - I can't believe these days were already two weeks ago.

We spent the day hurrying around doing all sorts of last minute things that hadn't been finished up yet - wrapping, baking, movies playing, getting all the things done in time for Christmas.  Every year we usually do a Christmas Eve Eve dinner to start off the holiday - appetizers then soup, crab cakes and sides - it's always such a treat.

We also usually bake cookies together - the recipe my mom's used since she was a little girl is so good.  Derek and I take advantage of extra babysitters to get any quick tasks done too.  For his last night, Tatum's elf set out his Night Before Christmas Book and we called it a night.

The next morning we usually have a whole Christmas Eve nice breakfast but I didn't have time to get it together the day before so Derek saved the day making pancakes with Christmas sprinkles (Tatum probably liked them better anyway) while Tatum and I watched Mickey's Christmas - all was well.

The rest of the day was pretty low key - picking up the last of the food for tomorrow, getting things finalized and a bit of time to relax and finish up some Christmas movies.

We went to a local Italian place that we've done many Christmas Eves at and did an early reservation to have time before church so we started getting ready early to get the three of us out the door on time and still ended up rushing, ha... but dinner was delicious and we had a great time.

We did the 7:30 candle lit service at church and Tatum got some glow sticks to hold which was really cute - though I think we will go back to the earlier kids service with him next year like we did last year.

When we got home it was right into pajamas and downstairs to watch a movie, set out cookies for Santa - which Tatum was very into... until he realized the cookies were for Santa and NOT for Tatum, then upstairs to read Night Before Christmas - luckily he was exhausted from the fun and went right to sleep.

We weren't up too late getting things set up leaving me some time to sit and just enjoy the tree and the magic that Tatum's age brought to the season this year.
