Makeup Routine Favorites + Sponsor Spotlight

Confession: I'm not a big makeup girl.  Well, let me rephrase that - I love wearing makeup and have my favorite few items but I'm not always searching the rows of Sephora and Ulta for the newest items.  Most of my products I've either had for years or gotten a recommendation for or copied my mom or one of my best friends.  I don't usually test out new things unless someone else likes them because they usually end up as a "miss." Before the holidays I got asked a lot about products I used and what my routine was so today, I'm sharing all my favorites.

During the weekdays, my makeup takes me probably five minutes or less.  On the weekends or when were going out it takes probably 15 minutes or less, probably even 10 or less.  If I knew what I was doing better, it would probably take more.  Wouldn't it be great to have a makeup artist???

My two keys are lipstick and blush.  I don't feel "made up" until I've got something on my lips and rosy cheeks.  To avoid this being too long I'll share storage, lips, eyes and shadows today saving bronzer, brushes and blush (and face) for next time (purely because I like how the three B's sound together).
Storage:
Like everyone, I fell in love with nice acrylic storage cases that the Kardashian girls use but would it be smart for someone who isn't even a makeup expert to spend $200+ on one case? No.  One of my best girls found a great alternative and I copied.  It's been about two years and I've never had a better or more organized storage setup.  I can't find my exact one any more but this storage set is just about the same, except mine has all the long rows.  I got similar matching items to hold my brushes as well as nail polishes.

There's plenty of other variations that you can get or items to go along with the setup like additional compartments to stack on, lipstick storage on top, or just a lipgloss case.

Lips:
Lipsticks the list could go on and on - this area is my absolute favorite but I am fully a YSL girl.  I have a couple other brands but it's only because I started using them before my YSL obsession and continue going back.

Most days I'm wearing YSL color 26 rose libertin and just recently I started adding Sephora brand rouge shine color 18 just dating on top. (one of the only things I just tried on a whim myself).  This has been my favorite for longer than I can remember whether for day or night, whatever time of the season, it never gets old.

During these cold winter months another combo I like is Sephora rouge shine color 13 forever yours with YSL color 09 rose stiletto over it.  Another big favorite, but only for summer (well, usually - sometimes nights out too) YSL color 19 fuchsia - if you're looking for a hot pink that will really pop, this is your color.

If I'm going for a lipgloss I love the simple nyx butter gloss (I'm not huge on lipgloss, for me I can just "feel" that it's on my lips and can't deal) but my absolute favorite is eclair - it just has such a nice, simple and feminine look. (Tiramisu is a close second - has anyone ever just read the names? They are the best!)

Eyes:
For liners I go simple and swear by CoverGirl perfect point eyeliner (expresso or black onyx) for the bottom and Physicians Formula eye booster 2-in-1 lash boosting eyeliner and serum on the top (in any of the three colors, depending on the day).  The Physicians Formula liner goes on so smoothly for a liquid. I've been using these two for years and years.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right??

If I use a primer (which is rare - only if it's something special) my go to is Urban Decay primer potion.

I've tried my fair share of mascaras to find one that really pops and so far my favorite is Benefit They're Real but I'm still on the look because while it's good on, it does take work to get off. (Once I didn't realize there was more than one They're Real product and accidentally grabbed the push up liner and walked out - I was back the next day to exchange).  I don't always do my brows but when I do I use Benefit brow zings shaping kit.

Lastly, I love this Tarte curler.  This is another one where I've used it for years and am just hooked.  Plus it always comes with a mini mascara to try and I like that too.

Shadows:
Again, as simple and basic as it gets - the original Naked palette is my go to.  I have the second and third palettes and have probably used them only a handful of times.  The neutrals in the original are my favorite and out of the palette there's about 4-6 colors that you can see the bottom which are clearly my favorite each day.  Recently I've also been loving two of the Nyx three shadow palettes - most of the colors for each of these is pretty similar but I love them for traveling because they are compact and easy to pack.

That's it today on the makeup front.  Do you have any favorites I should try because like I said, I usually only go on recommendations??? Next time… bronzers, brushes and blushes (and face care).

Sponsor Spotlight: Meet the Shaneyfelts
In addition to talking makeup today I'm excited to share with you a new sponsor, Sarah from Meet the Shaneyfelts.  She got married just under two months before me and did the same whole build a house thing with her new husband as I did so it's fun to follow along.  She shares some great recipes (hello green chile chicken tacos!), shared the process of building her house similar to the process we went through (she's got the best hardwood floors!), and has a Sense of Sarah series where you can get to know a little bit more about her.  She's also got a great giveaway below - don't miss out!

Hey y'all!  I'm Sarah and I'm so excited to be sponsoring Christina's blog for the month!  I've been reading Christina's blog since I started mine over a year ago.  I'm 28 years old and from a small town in north Alabama.  I married my husband on July 26, 2014, and it was the most perfect ceremony and reception ever!  (I know everyone says that, but ours really was haha!  The dance floor was so full the whole night!)

I am a seventh grade English teacher by day and a graduate student by night.  I love reading, shopping, fashion, baking, exercising, and talking!  I started Meet the Shaneyfelts as a way to document our life as a newly married couple along with a few recipe posts thrown in the mix

Here are a few facts about me:

Favorite food: Pizza and all sweets
Place wanting to travel:  I'll go ahead a list our vacations for this year--Dallas in September for the UA vs USC football game, an all-inclusive this summer, and possibly a cruise in December with my BFF and her husband

Favorite Holiday:  other than my birthday (haha) I love Christmas!

  3. I love everything about this post haha!! You've inspired me to get to Sephora to find a lipstick that I really like. The ones that I swap between just aren't my favorites anymore. And I love your make up storage--I remember seeing it on the Kardashians ha! Love the write up, too! Thanks so much!

  5. I have been on the search for the perfect lipstick for awhile now - I can't wait to check the ones you mentioned out! Clinique's High Impact mascara has been my favorite for a long time. I am trying a few new ones, but I think that is one I will always come back to. Love that storage idea...when i get a larger bathroom I am definitely going to pick up something like that!

  10. I got my acrylic makeup storage containers from TJMaxx, and I love them! I am a fan of Benefit's Roller Lash for mascara, but I have heard so many good things about They're Real too...I need to get my hands on a sample of it!

  11. Love your acrylic storage of course! ;) And two things I really need to get into more: lipsticks and curling my eyelashes. I've never curled my eyelashes, so crazy right! Agree with about glosses, I have a hard time with feeling them on my lips, too!

  12. I am adding that acrylic storage set to my cart now-I love it!!! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I'll come be your makeup artist! :) I wish it only took me 15 minutes to do my makeup - on a good day, it still takes me at least a half hour (I just enjoy the process, though!). I've heard great things about that Physician's Formula eyeliner, and I gave my Naked 3 palette away over Christmas! I think I had used it maybe twice, and the rose-colored tones just didn't work for me. I don't think anything will ever compare to the original.

  14. Love the makeup organizer. It's on my birthday list.

  15. Thanks for sharing your make up favorites today! You always look beautiful and so put together!

  16. I am the exact same! I don't have the newest and greatest makeup - what I have works. I did venture out and get a few new things for Christmas (hoping to do a review soon) but I can't figure out if my new liquid foundation or contour kit is breaking me out. I have the mini Naked set and LOVE it!

  17. Have you tried Benefit's Roller Lash mascara? I opted to try something new this past fall and I was torn between They're Real and Roller Lash. I went with Roller Lash and I really do love it. Naked is my go to eyeshadow as well. I have the original and the third. I do love them both, but I'd say the original has definitely gotten more use!

  19. I love YSL lipsticks! I feel like they go on so smoothly and don't have a chemical taste/feel.

  20. I'm with you on the makeup front. I use the same stuff over and over and only venture out when a friend makes a suggestion. Makeup is just not where I want to spend my money. I've made it a point to try and start wearing more lipstick this year. I love when I do wear it but I always forget to reapply it throughout the day. :)

  21. I love YSL makeup so much. The pigments are so rich and have such great staying power.

  22. Love that acrylic storage! I couldn't imagine spending upwards of 100$ on makeup storage. Benefit's brow kit is also one of my favorites.

  23. Definitely going to try some of these lip products! I never go to makeup stores and buy random products... I only ever buy stuff that people recommend. Can't wait to try these!

  24. That YSL lipstick is such a pretty color! I love the CoverGirl eyeliner too, but recently purchased a Sephora waterproof eyeliner that is similar, and I love it.

  25. I love that Sephora lipstick! I'm headed there this weekend and might just have to snatch it up. I used to wear Benefit's They're Real religiously but you're so right, it's so hard to get off. I've been trying new products for a few months and haven't found one I like. I just bought a new one from Target but have yet to open. Hoping for something good!

  26. Glad I'm not the only one with a 5 minutes or less makeup routine! I like my makeup to be light & fast to put on. I'm currently using Bare Minerals everything mostly. Love my Urban Decay eyeliner and I used to use that mascara but mine would dry out so fast!! I either use Cover Girl Lash Blast or I tried a sample of Lancôme Hypnose Drama (amazing!) and the sample Bare Minerals one I tried was pretty good too. I used the Lancôme for forever and used it up before it was dry at all. I'm thinking that one may be worth the splurge! I have the muji organizer & love it!

Sarah is so sweet! Glad to see her featured!

  27. I'm not much of a lipstick girl, mostly because I haven't found my perfect shade yet. One of my goals for this year is to find one, so I'll have to try Sephora! Thanks!

  28. i'm the same with makeup - i like it, but i'm not obsessed with it and sephora and the like overwhelm me rather than excite me haha.
i really dislike the 'they're real' mascara, i wanted to love it, but it was WAY too hard to get off. i've been using better than sex for a couple months and really like it, though it was way too wet and clumpy at first (i think it had to dry out a bit before i liked it, if that makes sense).

  29. I bought some of the YSL lipstick in the last Sephora sale, but I haven't tried it out yet! Obviously it's a great lipstick because everybody keeps on talking about how great it is! And so in love with all of the Naked palettes! I thought that 1 would be my favorite, but I think that I actually use 3 way more. I just love all of the pinks!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Love the organization! I need to do something like that with my makeup. I don't usually have the newest in makeup, but I have my favorites too. I won't leave the house without mascara. Ha ha!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've heard so much about those YSL lipsticks, I'm going to have to try one!!! Love that makeup organizer too. I'm also not a lipgloss person, I don't like it when my hair gets stuck to my lips on windy days here! I'd also LOVE to have a makeup artist too!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!

  32. Nyx really has the best lip glosses for an even better price! I haven't found one I like more. I really want to try out the mascara from Benefit next. I haven't found one that I absolutely love so I'm always buying new ones.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I use covergirl eyeliner too! It's a favourite of mine and I wear it everyday! I want to try that NYX Butter gloss!

  34. I don't clean my brushes very often but when I do I use this little egg guy with some baby shampoo and lay flat on a towel to dry. Super easy!
