College Gameday & Army/Navy

Well, it comes as no surprise that in this house we're huge football fans - especially college and we are pretty much obsessed with College Gameday.  The Gameday crew hasn't Penn State in a few years due to obvious reasons from all that happened with the scandal but with all that behind us and the team getting back to where they were - I'm hopeful for a visit next year.  When we heard Gameday was coming back to Philadelphia (they'd been here in October for the Temple/Notre Dame game) it was a no brainer to get up early and go especially since we were meeting some college friends for an Army/Navy tailgate.

College game day was everything I expected - a blast! This definitely wasn't the normal huge crowd they see at the big schools since it was a unique game day but it was a perfect first experience.  We got a late start due to the Christmas Party the night before but we still got there in plenty of time to see/do all we wanted.  We stood at various points in the crowd to find the best spot - finally we found one closer to one of the sides we liked with a lot of room (and later easily found ourselves on TV - little specs) and watched on the screens as well as the stage - obviously the guys have their backs to the crowd so it's usually more fun taking in the crowd and watching the screen.

We slowly moved our way up to the front as the day was ending and when they cut most people ran to get to their tailgates but then we had the whole space to ourselves! Derek talked to some of the Gameday guys (Desmond and Kirk & we got to see our favorite Lee up close) from the stage and then we headed over to see the game day bus before making our way to our tailgate.

In addition to being obsessed with College Gameday, we're also pretty obsessed with Sam Ponder - we'll really obsessed (in a recent article she even said doing a show from State College and attending a white out was at the top of her list since she wasn't part of the crew the last time they came).  I'm equally obsessed with her one year old daughter - the instagram she has for her is everything! We were peeking around at the bus to see if she was anywhere over there and lucky enough one of the ESPN crew members noticed us and our signs and signaled to us to hold on, she'd be right out.  A minute later she headed down and came right over to us - day made!  We chatted for a minute, she thanked us for our signs and took pictures (Derek wanted one together and I said no way, I need my own!), and then she jetted away from the crowd in a golf cart.  So nice, so friendly, so pretty - loved her!

To finish out our day (did I mention hot day - it was in the high 60's and there were some points where we were definitely TOO hot) we made our way over to a tailgate with some of our college friends and their friends from home.  There was tons of food, tons of drink and a great time was had.  We didn't actually go into the game but hung around at the tailgate until probably the end of the first quarter before heading home.  All in all it was a great day and I already can't wait for our next Gameday experience (although I'm expecting a much crazier crowd at Penn State than what we experience this weekend).

  5. Going to a College Gameday is so fun! I loved it when they came to Alabama when I was still in college. It always was so funny to me how all of my guy friends would camp out in order to get a good spot the next day and hope that they showed their poster on tv. And Scout is the cutest baby!
