Christmas Time in the City

There are so many festive activities to partake in here in or around the city.  We have some favorites that we like to do each year and a bucket list of items to slowly get to.  Two years ago we did a December weekend in NYC, last year we did a staycation here and this year we're going back to NYC.  I'd love to keep up with the "holiday weekend" each year whether it's taking advantage of home or seeing new cities at Christmas - I'd love to see the holiday displays in plenty of places.

Below you can find my guide of local activities we've done, we do each year or are on the list to cross of in the future.  If you're not local and see an idea you like below, just google that idea for your city and see if it's something going on around you too!

Philadelphia (and other local) Christmas Activities:

  • Christmas Tree Lighting in Rittenhouse Square
  • The Macy's Light Show at the Macy's Center City Location
  • The Christmas Village at Love Park
  • The Nutcracker at the Kimmel Center
  • Christmas Tree Lighting in Wayne
  • The Comcast Holiday Spectacular
  • Franklin Square Holiday Festival & Spectacle Holiday Light Show
  • Longwood Gardens Christmas Display
  • Reading Terminal Market Holiday Railroad
  • Christmas Time in Peddler's Village
  • Christmas Tree Lighting at Rose Tree Park (and the lights display)
  • Christmasland at Linvilla Orchards
  • Stag & Doe Nights in Chestnut Hill
  • A Christmas Story at Walnut Street Theater
  • Zoo Noel at the Philadelphia Zoo
  • Chriskindlmarkt in Bethlehem
  • The Mummer's Parade (New Year's Day)

And for a little extra today - here's how my husband saved Christmas last night! I was going through my Christmas notes and organizing the gifts when I realized there was one little present I hand't seen since it arrived last night and I just wanted to check where it was placed.  After we both looked everywhere (well the two places we store gifts, ha!) I realized that I must have thrown it out (so stupid and careless!).  Luckily, last night was our recycle night so I asked Derek to check if the cardboard box was in the bin - it was my only hope (he was the only one that could do it, my arms weren't long enough although, had he not been home, I would have just dumped that whole bin out) and sure enough he walked back in with the missing gift.  I'm SO thankful it popped into my mind last night of all nights to look around for the item and other gifts - had it have been a couple hours later, that thing would have been gone on the recycle trip.  Once the gift was safety put away I think the end of the conversation went a little something like, "Don't loose them again or you're done with presents, do you hear me?!"

Is your city a good one to visit around the holidays?! What favorite activities do you do/does the city have to offer?!

  9. When I was getting all the presents ready for our bridal party I had realized I lost the hankerchief I had gotten my flower girl for her to use on her special day. I tore the house up and never found it! I think I definitely threw it out or put it in a very safe place I can't even remember about now!

  10. Oh my goodness, what a scare with that present! I always am afraid I am going to do that...I kind of panic when I can't find something! St. Louis has lots to offer - parades, light displays, music shows, window displays, just a ton of events. This year hasn't been super conducive to take advantage of everything this year, but I am hopeful for next year!

And shout out to Derek for saving that gift! Accidentally throwing one out sounds like something I would do. Haha.

  23. I love that there are always so many fun and different Christmas activities to do even your hometown. Even though we've lived in Houston for a while, we still haven't done many activities around here. It would be fun to try and do something this year if we can!
