A Very Hot Weekend in DC

Weekending in DC
We got back yesterday afternoon from visiting two of our best friends in DC.  We also experienced some very high temperatures this weekend - we did all we could (last night especially) to stay cool!  We had a blast with Dom and Ashley and are already ready for our next trip back down to visit - it's such a fun area there with so much to eat, drink and enjoy.  Derek and I headed down late Friday afternoon and we all went straight out for dinner and drinks when we got there.  After a lazy Saturday morning we went to meet up with some of their friends as well as two other of our college friends, Robbie & Duane for a delicious brunch with bottomless bloody marys, bellinis and mimosas.  Delicious and a great way to spend the afternoon.  We also made a stop to visit some of the DC landmarks.  Saturday night was low key and we went to see our friends' Chelsea & Fabio's new apartment in DC before heading back to Arlington.  Yesterday we all hit the pool for a bit before we headed home.

Derek and I both have our favorites that we always ask to visit every trip to DC and I think we've now added a new brunch spot to the list too…

An afternoon hopping all over DC lead to a low-key night later on…

I always ask to stop by one touristy thing each time we are there and today it was the reflecting pool but we also passed a ton on the way there.  We also had to sit in a good amount of traffic because the president was flying in on Marine One to land on the White House lawn - but we saw the helicopter coming and going so that was pretty cool…

And last but not least - the bromance is surely real…

Trying to Stay Cool
Last night when we got back my parents brought over some kabobs and chicken that they needed to use up to grill and we picked up any cool appetizer and side we could think of to beat the heat.  I finished off the weekend with a nice bowl of ice cream to stay cool AND celebrate National Ice Cream Day - Yum!

Stella is now Nash's mini me - she has to do whatever he is doing and even after spending the whole weekend together - they both weren't sick of each other.

The Time My Dog Ate the Carpet
To kick off the weekend, we came home to find that Stella ate our carpet.  Our one year old, brand new carpet.  It could have been a lot worse but it also could have been better.  Once we got it cleaned up it's hardly noticeable but something we do still have to fix so it doesn't get worse.  It was not very pleasant for anyone but luckily *fingers crossed* we think/hope she's learned her lesson after a long timeout in the kitchen area with tiled floors.  Derek worked from home part of the day on Friday so he brought me a little Chick Fil A pick me up…

Doesn't her little face just scream "guilty!" in the timeout area while I cleaned up?!

  9. This looks like so much fun!! I'm so jealous of the short distances on the east coast - silly Texas and the ridiculous space between every single place! I love your outfits too - they look SO COMFORTABLE and SO COOL for the summer heat!! I can't believe I missed out on National Ice Cream Day....

  14. Bottomless mimosas are the best part about any brunch! I would have to do at least one touristy thing in DC too, even if I visited all the time. Looks like y'all had the best weekend!

  24. It looks like you had fun on your DC trip! I could really do with a bloody mary right now after reading about you having some! My dog took a chunk out of my carpet before and he just sat with those puppy dog eyes and I felt so bad about telling him off.

  26. That white dress you're wearing--is it from Nordstrom?! I saw it in-store once and after I left I kicked myself for not trying it on. But then I never ordered it. It's so cute! All the yummy food pictures are making me hungry! Our dogs have eaten some carpet, the wall, some trim...did I mention we live in an apartment? Not excited to pay for that when we move out.

  27. Stella looks like she feels really bad and is very sorry!! She is so cute. :-) Despite that it looks like you guys had a fun weekend. D.C. is a great city. I also love your romper and your floral dress is very pretty!! Hope that you had a great day today too! :-)

  28. Oh no! Our dacshund mix tore up our linoleum floor in our first apartment, it was such a mess! But thankfully the apartment management didn't charge us for it beyond our pet deposit we had already paid! Other than that sounds like a great weekend!

  29. Such a fun weekend in DC! Sorry that Stella ate the carpet...that's no fun, but she seems to be okay right? And hope the carpet is an easy fix (just put a chair over it haha). Our cat doesn't eat the carpet, but is all for scratching it.

  30. If there is a certain spot that Stella likes to chew/eat from, spray it with a 50/50 mix of water and apple cider vinegar. Most dogs will hate the taste. You can also buy a spray called Apple Bitters at pet stores, but the vinegar mix will basically do the same thing.

  33. I haven't been to DC in a few years and seeing your weekend there makes me want to go back! The last time I was there was in the winter and it was cold! I don't know if I would prefer the cold or heat in DC?

  35. What a fun weekend!!! However, I can't imagine walking around DC (or anywhere for that matter) in the heat. That stinks Stella ate your new carpet! Hopefully she learns ;) We're extremely nervous if my in-laws bring their dog to our house because he's not super well behaved and ruined the back of the bathroom door at my parents-in-laws house lol

  36. DC is so awesome! Looks like you had a great time with friends and seeing the sites! Really loving the dress you are wearing in front of the Washington Monument. What type of dog is Stella? She's so cute! Thanks for linking up this week!
