All About Easter {Weekending}

This weekend was all about Easter festivities and a great weekend it was!
I think this weekend goes down as one of my favorites.
The weekend kicked off early on Friday, Stella and I were being lazy in the afternoon and by 3pm or so Derek was home and joining us being lazy as well. It was nice to have just the three of us home with nothing to do; great little family time.  We mustered up enough energy to go to the pizza place across the street for some wine with a side of pizza, a lengthy dinner, some Good Friday talk and a lot of laughs.
 Stells after her Easter haircut
 Pure relaxing time
 Nice little impromptu date night

Easter baking and prep was the name of the game for the rest of the night when we got home.
Saturday morning brought one of my favorite/least favorite tasks.. the big closet switch! I planned on doing this Friday but it was too much fun to just be lazy, relax and do nothing.  I made lots of progress quickly, once Derek got home he did his switch too and other than a little organizing still needing to be done, we finished up by mid morning.  Nine bags were dropped off to good will later in the day (I think we got lazy last year with the spring cleaning due to wedding chaos and didn't do much clean out).
We did a little Easter lunch, mexican, of course before scooping up some needed home decor at Home Goods and some other errands including the start of our search for a grill.
The rest of the afternoon brought some naps (how great it is to have a quiet low key weekend!) and then Easter Eve dinner prep! We had my parents, brother and cousin over for a great night filled with too much food.  Mom did most of the main course (I was in charge of a new recipe and tested out a hash brown casserole) and I handled the appetizers and desserts.

Caprese Skewers, Bruschetta and Beer Cheese Dip for the appetizer bar

The main event

The Cadbury Egg Trifle I made was a bigger hit than I thought but I think the real moral of the story is that pudding will be a regular desert now! I forgot how good a little pudding is.
Recipe coming soon.
Some tulips to liven up the table
a duo of trouble makers
Love nights with my family
and my little family too

After cocktail hour, dinner and dessert, the boys humored me and dyed Easter eggs with me - you HAVE to dye Easter eggs.

Yesterday we got to sleep in a bit (Stella was tuckered out from the party and didn't make a peep until 8am!) before we gave our little "daughter" her Easter basket and headed out to our Easter church service.
No place better to be to start off Easter Sunday.
The festivities continued when we went home (my parent's house) to see what the Easter bunny brought us and have a little mingling before going out to a delicious brunch with a group of about twenty.  We finished out the holiday with comfy clothes and naps/relaxing/etc. at my parent's house before doing some leftovers at home for "Easter dinner".
The three Sotherdens
Love taking a moment out of each holiday to get a photo with each of my parents to remember the day.. and the pups
These two always completely tire each other out
The three "kids" checking out what the Easter bunny brought - luckily we have the best mama and she plays along.

The weather was beautiful all weekend - here's hoping spring is here to stay; the temperature is suppose to get up to 72 here today! Finally!

  6. What a fun weekend!! Sounds like it was super productive and included some great time with family! Love your Easter dress. This was the first year we didn't make the boys come dye eggs with us (believe it or not, they had never dyed eggs before 2 years ago when the girls made them lol) PS You need to ship down some of your Goodwill clothes - you always have adorable things!
