Wine Cork DIY {Thought for Thursday}

Oh, my wine!
I love me a glass of wine; who doesn't?!
Chardonnay, Pino Grigio, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc.. I'll accept any white wine in my glass.
I'm not big into reds, but Derek is, so throw those corks into my basket too.

A glass of wine can make a bad day go away.
It's good in the winter. It's good in the spring.  It's good in the summer. It's good in the fall.
So.. clearly we go through a lot of wine corks.  Last summer, I started saving them and eventually I started writing on them.  Some nights a wine bottle or bottles can lead to fabulous memories.  I like to keep track of them!  I know one day it will be a blast looking through and saying "oh, I remember that fun night" or "oh, there were so many laughs over this bottle."
Simply write down what the occasion was for once the wine bottle is empty and then throw the cork into a cute container of your choice.
The occasion could be as big as a wedding or anniversary or as small as a TV night or picnic.

Some of my favorites {that were also close to the top of the basket} include:
wedding morning
Bora Bora
Thanksgiving Eve
Christmas Eve
Thursday Wedding
(the Thursday before our wedding when all our friends were arriving into town and we have plenty of left over corks from that night)
1st date night after honeymoon
Scandal Thursdays
One day I'll probably work on a DIY project with these babies but for now they serve as a memory jar. I've seen so many cute ideas of what to do with them and am sharing my favorites below.

Wreath
I hope I'd be able to pull this off!

 Magnets
These would be so simple and subtle also

Coasters
These seem to be very popular

Last Name Letter
(and how perfect S was the example, I could see how ours would be!)

Rain Deer
How cute for Christmas?!

Do you save your wine corks?!
Have you done any interesting DIY projects with them?!

Linking up here and here for Thought for Thursday.

  2. Thats awesome! Love writing the dates or special occasions on them--we started doing that some too, so I'm sure it'll be fun to look back on and remember those nights. And I love a good wine cork craft!

  6. Okay, I really need to get with the program on posting some of my wedding stuff. We did wine cork name cards. I will post soon so you can see :) We got married at a vineyard so we had plenty of wine decor! They are much harder to cut than I thought they would be!

  9. This is SUCH an adorable idea! I recently went to a friend's surprise 40th birthday party and everyone signed a wine cork that is being put into a frame as the guest book...they are so great for preserving memories!

  10. I would LOVE to go to Bora Bora! I only have a few that I wrote on... I made an "H" in an old 8 x 10 frame I had laying around. I also cut some of the cork into pieces and glued it around the letter for a couple of different textures. :)

  11. I save my wine corks, too! I am running out of room to store them, so I need to get cracking on doing something with them or find a bigger container.
